SPOTLIGHT: Moody Glam Wedding Invitations

Have you ever dreamed of wedding invitations that are just a tad edgy, with a touch of “rock & roll”? If that’s you - then read on!

A few months ago, I received an inquiry from Bristol from Sustainable Soirées wedding planning. Bristol was searching for custom wedding invitations. When she reached out to me, I already had a full calendar and wasn’t planning on taking on any more work. But the moment she started describing her vision to me - I was in heaven.

Here’s what she described: A disco themed wedding featuring luxurious yet edgy details such as moody black candlesticks, black dishes, and lush purple florals.

Are you sold yet?

Obviously, I jumped at the opportunity to design wedding invitations for this one-of-a-kind aesthetic!

Designing the Invitations

This was a disco themed wedding, so of course I had to incorporate a disco element into the invitations! I wanted these invitations to feel sophisticated and moody, yet also flashy and fun. So I found the most beautiful reflective silver envelope liners to create a disco-like look. These liners brought the perfect touch of “rock & roll” to the earthy gray invitation envelopes.

The venue also had lots of moody elements, such as black candlesticks; so of course it was a no-brainer to use black paper for the invitations! Take a look at the pictures - this black paper isn’t just any black paper. It’s super luxurious, inky black paper that even picks up fingerprints (and believe it or not, I assembled these invitations wearing gloves for this very reason.) Retro-inspired font for the couple’s names gave these invitations an edge of fun, and lowercase text for the fine print also helped bring a touch of casualness and personality!

Finally - The invitation suite was wrapped inside a folded sheet of translucent vellum paper with moody purple watercolor, connecting the invitation colors to the purple flowers of the wedding venue.

A Touch of Sustainability

I am proud to say that the envelopes were made of recycled paper, and the black paper created in a factory powered by 100% green energy.

As Bristol (wedding planer & owner of Sustainable Soirees) once told me: It’s not about being “all or nothing” when it comes to sustainability… but every little bit counts!
