SPOTLIGHT: Chinese Wedding Invitations

The Struggle of Finding Chinese Wedding Invitations

When I first started this business, I wanted to design wedding invitations for Asian couples. Why? Because growing up as an Taiwanese American woman, I can relate to the feeling of looking out into the world and not being SEEN.

Think about it:

  • How often do you see an AAPI bride or groom featured in a wedding magazine or photoshoot?

  • How often do you see bilingual Chinese wedding invitations featured on Minted?

  • You’ve seen countless table settings glittering with gold chargers and shimmery silverware - but have you ever seen a family-style dinner setting with elegant chopsticks and rice bowls?

  • You know about rehearsal dinners, but has anyone ever given you tips on how to host a tea ceremony?

I’m not saying that you HAVE to bring your culture into your wedding day - in fact, I don’t believe that at all. We humans are nuanced, sensitive, and multilayered creatures - and no one should ever feel pressured to become a stereotype or mouthpiece of their culture, race or ethnicity.

But what I’m saying is that if you DID want to bring some cultural or ethnic heritage into your wedding day - you might be hard pressed to find any inspiration out there that feels authentic and natural.

Why Custom Invitations are The Way to Go

I got into the business of custom wedding invitations because I believe everyone should feel seen and celebrated on their wedding day. You should not have to compromise on who you are, whom you love, or what you cherish just because the world out there does not reflect who you are inside. And that is why custom wedding invitations are so special!

Here are the reasons I love custom design:

  • We can incorporate elements of your relationship, family, heritage, style, etc. - anything that is special to you

  • We can get to know each other as people, so that I can create invitations that feel human and truly reflect who you are

  • YOU can relax and enjoy other parts of wedding planning, rather than getting lost in browsing pages of premade wedding invitations, or doing mental math to figure out how many invitations you need to send and when!

All these reasons are why I believe custom wedding invitations are the best way to create something beautiful, especially if you are looking for something unique, such as bilingual Chinese invitation cards. You can learn more about custom wedding invitations here.

spotlight: Modern Chinese Wedding Invitations with Double Happiness

Earlier this year, I created a set of bilingual wedding invitations for a Chinese American couple. Inspired by a lush, botanical garden venue, these invitations feature bold florals in hues of red & pink. The same intricate floral pattern was also carved into a red card jacket which enclosed the invitations.

We really embraced the color red in this invitation suite, since red is a lucky Chinese color!

In addition - these modern Chinese invitations also feature a Double Happiness symbol. Double Happiness is a play on the traditional Mandarin character for “happiness”, which is normally a single character. For marriages, the character is repeated twice, to symbolize double happiness due to the joining of husband and wife.

These invitations were a joy to create, because they reminded me of why I started designing wedding invitations in the first place. My ultimate goal is to serve my couples by making them feel celebrated. I want everyone I work with to feel like they are being loved for being exactly who they are.

Celebrating Your Wedding Day, Your Way

I started this business because I want to serve people who don’t fit into society’s traditional interpretation of a bride and groom.

There’s nothing wrong with a white dress, a church ceremony, and a union between man and wife. These traditions are worth celebrating.

But ultimately - I hope that my little corner of the wedding industry is a place where couples from ALL places and walks of life can feel accepted. If you don’t feel like the norms and traditions of society reflect who you are - then let’s break free. Let’s reinvent those norms. Let’s create our own traditions. Let’s carve out a space for you to be exactly who you want to be.

Cheers,
